E. Dan Wolf DVM, ACVO -Veterinary Ophthalmologist

Dr. Wolf has provided ophthalmic referral services in Tampa since 1991.  The new location of the Southern Eye Clinic for Animals on Hoover Blvd is an independent specialty clinic.  Our practice is dedicated, and strictly limited, to veterinary ophthalmology (diagnosis and treatment of animal eye diseases).  We, at Southern Eye Clinic for Animals, appreciate the confidence that the area's veterinarians and many pet owners have in us and we strive to provide a service that builds on that mutual trust.

Our mission is to enhance the bond between our clients and their pets by providing the highest quality professional care and personalized advice about the health and comfort of the eyes.  To achieve our mission requires a coordinated, cooperative effort among the pet's primary care veterinarian, the pet's caregiver, and the specialist.

The basis of our specialty practice is referrals from primary care veterinarians.  Referring a patient for specialty care demonstrates concern for the welfare of patients.  Dr. Wolf and the staff of the Southern Eye Clinic for Animals collaborate closely with your pet's primary care veterinarian; providing optimal eye care coordinated with your doctor's general health care.

Dr. Wolf received the DVM degree from Ohio State University in 1968.  After 5 years with a progressive practice in Chicago, he became the first veterinarian accepted for comparative ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois Medical College.  Retinal diseases and cataracts were the subjects of Dr. Wolf's residency research.   Upon completion of his residency Dr. Wolf joined Animal Eye Associates, a veterinary ophthalmology specialty practice with locations in the Chicago area.

In 1976 Dr. Wolf completed the comprehensive examination and received the diploma of "board certification in veterinary ophthalmology and was accepted into membership of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO).

From 1980-1991 Dr. Wolf taught veterinary ophthalmology as faculty member at the University of Florida and then at The Ohio State University.  In 1991 he began practicing veterinary ophthalmology in Tampa, Florida.  Many of the veterinarians in western Florida were Dr. Wolf's students.

Dr. Wolf's special interests within ophthalmology include conditions of the cornea, retina and orbit and microsurgery of the eye.  He has experience in the latest technology in ultrasonography, electroretinography, cataract surgery by phacofragmentation/aspiration with foldable lens implants, and laser applications.  Dr. Wolf has authored articles for veterinary and ophthalmology journals, contributed chapters in both veterinary and human medical textbooks and given numerous presentations at local, national, and international symposia.  He is active in local and national veterinary organizations and is a past president of the ACVO.

Services at Southern Eye Clinic for Animals include consultation on diseases affecting the eyes or vision in any nonhuman species.  Ophthalmic diagnostic testing and medical and surgical therapies are provided in cooperation with the pet's primary care veterinarian.  Followup assessments of a patient's condition are recommended as needed to result in an optimal outcome.  Telephone consultations with primary care veterinarians are welcomed.
